Welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter NYConsulate Events! The 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall is approaching, and New York City is commemorating this historic event. Join us to see German and American teenagers "Dancing to Connect" at the World Financial Center.

Events on the 20th Anniversary of the Fall of The Berlin Wall

Battery Dance Company: Dancing to Connect, October 28, 2009

Dancing to Connect performance by the August-Thyssen-Hauptschule, Duisburg, in Essen, Germany

World Financial Center will celebrate the 20-year reunification of Germany with Battery Dance Company - Dancing to Connect dance concert of world premieres created by American choreographers, teenage Germans (who will cross the Atlantic for the program) and teenage American dancers from Lower Manhattan.

Exhibition: 9/11 - 11/9 International Exchange between artists from Berlin and New York City, November 2 - December 1, 2009, Hewitt Gallery of Marymount Manhattan College

Exhibition: 9/11 - 11/9

Artist Exchange International and Marymount Manhattan College present “11/9-9/11”, an exhibition in the Hewitt Art Galleries of Marymount Manhattan College “11/9-9/11” both juxtaposes and likens the fall of the Berlin Wall (on November 9, 1989) and the destruction of the World Trade Center (on September 11, 2001). The presentation of work at Marymount corresponds with the twentieth anniversary of the dismantling of the Berlin Wall, and showcases work by six Berlin artists who have been inspired by that landmark event.

Dr. Frank Holl, born in Heidelberg, Germany in 1956, is a Germanist and historian of science. For the last 15 years, the focus of his investigations has been on Humboldt’s work. In 1994 he was awarded the Georg Agricola Society for the Promotion of the History of Natural Sciences and Technology Prize. In 2009 his book "Alexander von Humboldt - Mein vielbewegtes Leben" has been elected as "The historical book of the year" by the historical magazine "damals". He is the author and organizer of exhibitions on Alexander von Humboldt in Mexico City, Havana, Caracas, Berlin, Bonn, Bogotá, Quito, Lima and Madrid.

Still Ongoing Exhibitions on the German City of Leipzig

Exhibition: "In Pursuit of Knowledge: Six Hundred Years of Leipzig University" at The Grolier Club, September 10 - November 21, 2009

The Grolier Club welcomes the exhibition "In Pursuit of Knowledge", organized by Leipzig University Library to commemorate the 600th anniversary of Leipzig University. Among the books on display are two leaves from the oldest complete Bible manuscript in existence, the Codex Sinaiticus (ca. 350), the Mongolian Koran (1306), and the Machsor Lipsiae (1320), one of the most beautiful examples of medieval bookmaking.

The DietzSpace gallery in Greenwich Village has invited the Berlin artist G.L. Gabriel to exhibit her city paintings that capture the perceived impression of the city's many angles.

Photo Art Exhibition: Glimpse of Germany, October 6 - November 2, 2009

Glimpse of Germany is a photo art exhibition at the World Financial Center Winter Garden displaying the work of 31 photojournalists from 18 countries documenting Germany as it is today, twenty years after losing the "east" and "west" from its monikers.
