German Films Nominated for Golden Globe Awards

Leaders Hold Video Conference on Copenhagen Climate Conference

Ahead of the final phase of the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, US President Obama, French President Sarkozy, British Prime Minister Brown and German Chancellor Merkel conducted a video conference. The leaders will take part in the conference, which is in its final week.

Europe Pledges Billions for Climate Protection

EU member states have resolved to provide financial assistance for climate protection measures in developing countries, making available more than 7 billion euros by 2012. Germany will provide 420 million euros a year, Chancellor Merkel announced in Brussels.

Island Nations Bring Special Concerns to Climate Talks

Ahead of the final round of negotiations at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Chancellor Angela Merkel, Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle and Development Minister Dirk Niebel met in Berlin with the leaders of eight Pacific island states - Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Palau, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. These island states are particularly impacted by climate change.

Medication to Prevent Thrombosis Receives German Prize

Frank Misselwitz and his research team can look forward to the future. The medication they co-developed with German pharmaceutical giant Bayer in treating thrombosis was recently awarded the Deutscher Zukunftspreis by President Horst Köhler.

The Audi A3 TDI has been named the 2010 Green Car of the Year by Green Car Journal at the Los Angeles Motor Show. The clean diesel vehicle gets 42 miles mpg highway while making no sacrifices to comfort and other features.

Michael Haneke’s critcally-acclaimed film "The White Ribbon" received top honors – the award for Best European Film – and two additional prizes at the 22nd edition of the European Film Awards ceremony, which was held this year in Bochum, Germany.

Washington Jewish Film Festival Premieres Film on Marcel Reich-Ranicki
