The Arab Spring, the situation in Iran and Syria and general security issues were the wide-ranging topics discussed by Foreign Minister Westerwelle in Washington. He also addressed the sovereign debt crisis and the stability of the euro. He met with Secretary of State Clinton, Treasury Secretary Geithner, IMF Director Lagarde, and delivered an address at the Brookings Institution.

On a German Embassy-sponsored tour of three DC-area high schools, the Bochum-based pop-rock band Artig, winner of the 2011 German SchoolJam school band competition, dazzled over 2,000 students and won many new fans.

Ambassador Peter Ammon traveled to Spartanburg for the announcement by BMW that it will invest nearly $900 million and add 300 new jobs in its South Carolina plant. South Carolina Governor Haley welcomed the announcement.
