do Deutsch

The do Deutsch campaign aims to raise awareness among students and their parents, teachers of German and political decision makers as well as the media of the value of language learning. Languages open up opportunities. Practically each of the 350 million Europeans knows at least one foreign language. People all over the world, particularly in China and other emerging powers, are eager to learn languages because they know this is a key skill for their future.

German is a wonderful language. Some of the hottest tickets in the US are to the New York Metropolitian opera's Wagner Ring cycle - sung in German. "Das Auto" is known by many who drive a German car and appreciate German engineering. Berlin and its Brandenburg Gate are the symbol for the end of the division of Europe and for peaceful revolution. The German economy is the driving force in Europe and worldwide. German companies have built some of their most modern production sites, with thousands of jobs, in the US. The upshot: German is important and can be a career maker.
