Consul General Dr Fisher was invited by the Museum of Tolerance to speak at its annual event commemorating Kristallnacht– the “Night of Broken Glass“–that happened 76 years ago on November 9, 1938.
The 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall was celebrated all over the world including Los Angeles, where Consul General Dr. Bernd Fischer attended and spoke at two events over the weekend and recalled the world-changing day of November 9, 1989.

Steven D. Lavine, president of CalArts and Villa Aurora board member, received the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his contributions in fostering German-American cultural relations.

Deputy Consul General Stefan Biedermann together with the representative of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Hanni Geist, recently visited three universities in Utah to promote study abroad in Germany and give lectures on diverse topics such as the European Union, the Ukraine crisis and practical journalism.

Deputy Consul General Stefan Biedermann recently attended the opening of the “Light & Noir: Exiles and Émigrés in Hollywood, 1933–1950” exhibition at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.
Consul General Dr. Bernd Fischer was delighted to receive artwork by famed Berlin Wall artist Thierry Noir, who partially donated the painting to the German Consulate for the 25 anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Guajome Park Academy’s German Club was proud to present its annual Oktoberfest on Tuesday October 7. All students and parents were invited to participate in fun-filled activities and learn about the origin of Oktoberfest.
Over 500 guests joined Consul General Dr. Bernd Fischer and his wife Jutta on October 2 to celebrate the Day of German Unity. Germany’s national holiday observed on October 3 marks the day in 1990 when East and West Germany peacefully reunited.

The Goethe-Institut Chicago invites high school students interested in science to explore Germany! Twelve young scientists from the USA will be chosen to travel to Germany from November 28 - December 7, 2014. Deadline to apply is October 15, 2014.

Just in time to kick off the new school year, Albert Einstein Academies celebrated the opening of its new Middle School building with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Deputy Consul General Stefan Biedermann and other local dignitaries.

Consul General Dr. Bernd Fischer was honored to present the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany to Rita Reiff, the president of the German American School Association, at a small ceremony in his office on August 12.

The German American School Association (GASA) held its third annual German Summer Camp at the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Recreation Center in Orange, where 82 campers enjoyed learning German in a week of fun-filled activities.
