Consul General Dr. Bernd Fischer gave the keynote speech at the opening of the new exhibit “Jewish Life in Germany Today” in Los Angeles at UCLA Hillel. The exhibit encompasses 25 panels that tell the stories of a cross section of Jews living in Germany today.
Julia Ibold, German language consultant for the German Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA) teamed up with CSULB German professor Nele Hempel-Lamer to launch a new initiative to promote German studies in California high schools.
At a luncheon in Las Vegas on January 5, Consul General Dr. Bernd Fischer officially bid farewell to Honorary Consul Andreas Adrian who served as Germany’s Honorary Consul for Nevada since 2007.

Deputy Consul General Stefan Biedermann attended the annual Winter Concert at the Goethe International Charter School in Los Angeles. During his visit, he also presented the school with a grant from the German government to foster its German program.

Consul General Dr Fisher was invited by the Museum of Tolerance to speak at its annual event commemorating Kristallnacht– the “Night of Broken Glass“–that happened 76 years ago on November 9, 1938.
The 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall was celebrated all over the world including Los Angeles, where Consul General Dr. Bernd Fischer attended and spoke at two events over the weekend and recalled the world-changing day of November 9, 1989.

Steven D. Lavine, president of CalArts and Villa Aurora board member, received the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his contributions in fostering German-American cultural relations.

Deputy Consul General Stefan Biedermann together with the representative of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Hanni Geist, recently visited three universities in Utah to promote study abroad in Germany and give lectures on diverse topics such as the European Union, the Ukraine crisis and practical journalism.
