On October 3rd, the German Consulate General in Los Angeles celebrated this year’s special Day of German Unity, Germany’s national holiday, which marked the 25th anniversary of Germany’s reunification, with a reception at Villa Aurora, the famed artists residence in Pacific Palisades.

A Model United Nations team of students from California State University, San Bernardino visited the German Consulate General and spoke with Deputy Consul General Stefan Biedermann to gain insight into Germany, the country they will be representing at the 2015 National MUN-Europe Conference in Olomouc, Czech Republic.

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles-Berlin Sister City Committee held its annual membership meeting at Yamashiro restaurant atop Hollywood with stunning views of the City of Angeles. Deputy Consul General Stefan Biedermann was in attendance to greet members and welcome the newly elected board members.

Consul General Hans Jörg Neumann presented US Army Major Timothy Goffinet with the bronze Humanitarian Service Medal, awarded to him by German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen. He was recognized for his service in Afghanistan with German forces.

Thomas Oppermann, member of the Bundestag (German parliament) and Chair of the SPD parliamentary group, visited Los Angeles on Monday, July 20 to discuss immigration and the entertainment industry.
Consul General Hans Jörg Neumann attended the Clean Technology dinner hosted by Germany Trade & Invest in Los Angeles. He gave opening remarks at the event which focused on Germany's energy transition and market potential for U.S. companies.

Consul General Hans Jörg Neumann officially installed Paul T. Maricle as the new honorary consul in Colorado for the Federal Republic of Germany on Monday, July 13. Mr. Maricle fills the position vacant since the retirement of Bernhard J. Bleise earlier this year.

After 37 years and three months, Consul General Dr. Bernd Fischer officially retired from the German Foreign Service on June 30. In his career as a German diplomat, he served his country in missions all over the world including Japan, Austria, Croatia and the United States.

Julia Ibold, German Language Consultant for the Central Agency for Schools Abroad, presented German Language Diplomas and Certificates to students from San Diego High School and Albert Einstein Academies.

Deputy Consul General Stefan Biedermann presented Elke Miller with the Medal of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, bestowed on her by President Joachim Gauck for her efforts in establishing German education in Los Anngeles.
