Ambassador Addresses German American Business Council at Annual Dinner
Ambassador Klaus Scharioth was the guest of honor at the annual dinner of the German American Business Council on April 30. In his remarks, Ambassador Scharioth praised the strong business relations between the two countries. The German Economy is now running like a locomotive, he said, citing the 400,000 new jobs created last year. Germany now has the lowest unemployment numbers in years. He also pointed out that the annual dinner was taking place on the first anniversary of the founding of the Transatlantic Economic Council. The main goal of this initiative, suggested by Chancellor Angela Merkel and brought into being under the German EU Presidency on April 30, 2007, is to overcome regulatory divergences that create an undo pressure on costs and weaken the two economies’ positions in the global marketplace. Ambassador Scharioth also addressed the problem of global warming and said this problem can only be addressed jointly. May 2, 2008 Links
