Germany is taking part in WIREC 2008, the Washington International Renewable Energy Conference, from March 4 to 6, with a high-ranking government delegation and a German Pavilion at the trade show. Germany hosted the first such international conference, the International Conference for Renewable Energies in Bonn in 2004. The second such conference was held in Beijing in 2005.

WIREC 2008 is hosted by the US Government to address the opportunities and challenges of a major, rapid, global scale-up of renewable energy. Delegates from over 80 countries are in attendance, and some 285 speakers will discuss the latest developments in renewable energy, including biofuels, solar, wind, hydro, geothermal and biomass.

The Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology is sponsoring the German Pavilion, which  is hosting events on two days of the conference: German Renewable Energy Day on March 5 and German Energy Efficiency Day on
March 6.
