Dear Germany Info,

My experience as a US federal civil service employee, assigned to the US Army, 30th Medical Brigade Headquarters in Heidelberg as their Brigade Safety Manager from 1998 to 2004, was very positive.  We clearly received much support from the local German Polizei and Bundeswehr soldiers, who provided security for our US military bases and installations in Germany when our US soldiers assigned in Germany were deployed with tactical field units to combat operations in Afghanistan and in Iraq.

Valuable cross training with our European NATO allied military forces were readily available at Grafenwoehr, Vilseck and Hohenfels field training sites.  Key to the significant reduction of combat deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan was our prompt support by US Air Force medical evacuation to Ramstein Air Force Base and the Landstuhl Army Medical Center.  Our key medical tactical field personnel were kept at the highest level of training during their regular medical duties at Heidelberg Army Hospital, Wuerzburg Army Hospital and Landstuhl Medical Center.

Prompt access to ongoing peacekeeping operations in Bosnia and Kosovo are supported by the US military forces in Germany.  Logistics support from German contractors also made military operations in the Middle East and in Northern Africa much easier.

Sincerely,

Daniel Voglesong

Alexandria, Virginia
