Let's get one thing straight: not all Germans yodel and listen to oompah bands. We're into Rap, Hip-Hop, Pop, Rock, and everything else that's trendy. Many songs that are hits in the United States are popular here, too. My friends and I like listening to songs in English. Of course, we listen to German bands, too – here are a few of my favorites:

The German bands that are most popular internationally all sing in English because there are only about 100 million people in the world who speak or understand German. But you might have heard of musicians like Lou Bega, Guano Apes or Scooter. They all come from Germany.

To show you how distinctive and cool music from Germany can be, I collected some websites that should give you a good idea of the German music scene. There are bits of everything: from punk to techno, from rock to pop, from hip-hop to R'n'B.

To get a general idea of what’s hot on the German charts, check out MTV Germany or the German music channel VIVA
