Ambassador Scharioth hosted a cabaret and dinner event with the well-known troupe of the Münchner Lach- und Schiessgesellschaft on April 29.

“Extended: The Anniversary Program – 50 Years of Müncher Lach- und Schiessgesellschaft” was the title of this ambitious production, a political and satirical cabaret performance in which Thomas Wenke, Sonja Kling, and Ecco Meineke revisit and critique important aspects of life in Germany over the last 50 years though witty and fast-paced sketches. As a result of the psychotherapy that the character Mr. Deutschland undergoes, a host of recognizable individuals make appearances and characters evocative of the political movements and zeitgeist of the recent past resurface.

Representatives of the event’s partner organizations—Deutsche Welle and Goethe-Institut Washington—as well as representatives of the generous sponsors of the performances by the Münchner Lach- und Schiessgesellschaft—Lufthansa, Dräger Foundation, Volkswagen, Deutsche Telekom, Deutsche Post, and Bayer AG—and other Embassy guests were present.

The Münchner Lach- und Schiessgesellschaft gave additional sold-out performances in the Auditorium of the German Embassy on April 30 and May 1. The proceeds from these ticketed events goes to support the programming of the Friends of Goethe-Insitut Washington. The cabaret troupe will also perform at the German Consulate General in New York City on May 5, which has been made possible with support of BMW and the above-mentioned sponsors.
