Bernhard Schlink’s US tour for his latest novel Die Heimkehr (Homecoming) has been cancelled until further notice.

The highly acclaimed author of Der Vorleser (The Reader), was to promote the recently released English translation of his novel Die Heimkehr (Homecoming).

As in The Reader, Schlink tells a twentieth-century German story in his new work. In Homecoming, protagonist Peter Debauer searches for the identity of a German soldier who returns home after many years spent in captivity at a Russian prison camp. Debauer first learned of the soldier while visiting his grandparents as a child. In the course of his search, Debauer discovers how much the soldier’s story also touches him personally.

Schlink, professor of law at Humboldt University in Berlin, landed a global success with his work The Reader. The novel, which was published in the United States in 1997, was the first German book to reach number 1 on the New York Times Bestseller List.
