Chamber Orchestra of the Young German Philharmonic Performs at the German Embassy
The German Embassy, with the support of the Goethe Institut, presented a free concert by the Chamber Orchestra of the Young German Philharmonic in the Carl Schurz Auditorium of the Embassy on May 8. The six artists performed a string quartet by Johannes Brahms, several pieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and a contemporary work by the American composer Charles Argersinger. The performance was enjoyed by a full house. The Young German Philharmonic is famous for its outstanding musical achievement. It recruits the best musicians from among the 24 musical academies in Germany. The chamber orchestra was visiting the United States for the second time on invitation by the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra and its musical director Kent Nagano. In 2007, it participated in the first Berkeley Academy Ensemble project and again in the follow-on project this May. As part of the project, several concerts with American musicians take place as a means of fostering musical and cultural exchange. This year, one of the concerts was also organized by the German Consulate General in San Francisco. May 14, 2008 Links
