German Accordion Orchestra Among Winners of Coupe Mondiale
The Akkordeonorchester Hof received multiple honors at the Coupe Mondiale and the ATG United States National Championship. The young musicians of the orchestra, who range in age from sixteen to twenty-seven years, had traveled from Germany to take part in the Coupe Mondiale, an international competition for accordionists which was held this year in Alexandria, Virginia. At the close of the competition, the Accordion Quintet Hof placed third in the international competition for chamber music. In the related national championship competition, the Akkordeorchester Hof placed first in the youth orchestra category, member Johannes Dimmling received a first-place prize as a soloist, and the Jüngsten Quartett, an even younger group of players between eleven and twelve years of age, was also awarded first place.
The Akkordeonorchester Hof gave a concert at the German Embassy on August 17, 2007, which was enthusiastically received by the large audience in attendance. The Akkordeonorchester Hof was founded by conductor Günther Zeilinger with students from his accordion classes at the Hof School of Music in 1984. In addition to the honors received at this year’s Coupe Mondiale and the U.S. National Championships, this accomplished group of musicians was awarded the Bavarian Youth Orchestra championship title in 1997 and 1999, a third place prize in the youth orchestra category of the International Accordion Festival in Innsbruck in 2001, and they have taken part and received high placings in many other national and international competitions.
