Ambassador Scharioth picked Thomas Higgins of Washington, DC, as the lucky winner of the Spot the Bus contest in a random drawing. Higgins was one of many who spotted the bus around Washington, DC, in October, November and December, 2007, uploaded their photos on Germany.info and gave us their reasons to love Germany.

The most creative essays were chosen to participate in the random drawing to select the winner of the Grand Prize, a seven-day trip to Germany, sponsored by Germany - Land of Ideas and BMW.

Higgins said that he was inspired to participate in the contest by the many discussions he has had with the numerous German interns and their friends that have passed through his family’s home during the past year. One night in late December, Higgins saw the bus traveling along Wisconsin Ave in NW Washington. He was in his car with his youngest daughter and asked her to take a picture with his cell phone. At one point she even jumped out of the car and ran over to the bus as it stopped to try to get a better picture of the bus.
