German Studies Association Holds Annual Meeting in Washington
More than 700 people are attending the 28th annual conference of the German Studies Association (GSA), October 7 to 10 in Washington, DC. GSA is a national and international association of scholars in all fields of German studies, including German, Austrian and Swiss history, literature, culture, political science and economics. Members are primarily professors at colleges and universities in North America, though there are several hundred members in Europe and Asia. This year’s meeting includes more than 150 moderated sessions on topics ranging from “Goethe Across Cultural Boundaries” to “German Identity in the Middle Ages,” to “Germany and the EU Constitution,” to name only a few. Among the keynote speakers are Austrian Ambassador Eva Novotny, Johns Hopkins University Professor David Calleo, Director of the European Studies Program, and German author Sten Nadolny. This year’s meeting also features a German film series sponsored by the DEFA Film Library at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and by the German Information Center. October 7, 2004 Link |
