Welcome to the German Consulate’s Website

The jurisdiction of the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Chicago covers the MidWestern States, namely Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin.

The Consulate in Chicago exists for about 100 years in an area of the USA which has a large German-American community (ca. 30 % of the population here has German ancestors). Therefore one of the missions of this office is to serve all Germans (i.e. bearers of German passports) who are in need of legal and social assistance (please follow the links on the website to our consular section).
Furthermore the Consulate fosters economic, trade and business cooperation between Germany and the USA (see link to our economic department). There is also a German American Chamber of Commerce in Chicago.
Not least are the cultural relations: We try to help develop the exchange of students and scholars, inform about German cultural activities and programmes and foster all kinds of bilateral contacts between non-governmental and civic organisations. For German language training and cultural programmes there is also a Goethe Institute in Chicago (see link on cultural section).

One additional service we provide is information about Germany and what is currently happening there.
