German Consulate Celebrates Day of German Unity Los Angeles – On October 3, 2005 the German Consulate celebrated the Day of German Unity at the Petersen Automotive Museum. Over 500 guests joined in the evening’s festivities to commemorate the 15 th anniversary of German unification. Words of welcome were conveyed by the evening’s Master of Ceremonies, Frank Mottek and the national anthems of the United States and Germany were sung by Christina Linhardt, wearing a tri-color dress representing Germany’s colors of black, red, and gold designed by Ahneva. Consul General Christian Stocks bid welcome to all the many guests that had come to celebrate the significant day. He remarked that, “it is a wonderful day for Germany and one that brings friends of Germany together from all over the world to celebrate this day of joy and happiness.” He went on to thank all the sponsors, artists, and members of the German Consulate General who had graciously helped to make the evening possible. In closing, he toasted to continued German-American friendship and a wish for peace and prosperity throughout the world.
City Councilman Tom LaBonge provided a few unexpected highlights to the evening as he honored five members of the German community for their outstanding work in enhancing the relations between the United States and Germany to promote German-American Affairs and in addition, for their great work on the Sister City Committee. The five very surprised recipients who received Certificates of Appreciation were Ernest Herman, Rosemarie Reisch, Robert Blum, Frank Mottek and Volker Corell. An honorable mention was also extended to Cornelius Schnauber for all his contributions.
Tom LaBonge had one more surprise in store as he gifted Christine Stocks, wife of the Consul General, with a special bread baked by an order of nuns in Hollywood.
The balmy night air filled with soft jazz music as the Berlin Youth Jazz Orchestra serenaded guests as they dined on German specialties and enjoyed an authentic German pretzel with their German beer or wine. The rooftop patio with city lights of Los Angeles twinkling in the distant was an ideal setting for a lovely evening.
