The German Consulate General in San Francisco is the official representation of the Federal Government of Germany in Northern California, Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming and the American overseas territories American Samoa, Baker-, Howland-, Jarvis-, Johnston-, Midway- and Palmyra-Island.

Deadline for Applications for One-Time Payment to Former Soviet Prisoners of War to Expire September 30, 2017

The period of time in which to submit an application ends this year on September 30, 2017. Members of the Soviet armed forces who were detained as prisoners of war by Germany during the Second World War in the period from June 22, 1941, to May 8, 1945, may apply for a one-time payment in the amount of 2,500 euros.

500th anniversary of the Reformation

Five hundred years ago, on 31 October 1517, legend has it that theology professor Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of All Saints’ Church in Wittenberg. The posting of these theses in Wittenberg marks the beginning of the Reformation. The far reaching theological, cultural and political consequences of the Reformation make its anniversary in 2017 not only a church affair, but a central global event in cultural history.

Germany’s G20 presidency

Germany will be holding the presidency of the G20 in 2017. The summit of the heads of state and government and representatives of international organisations will be held in Hamburg on 7 and 8 July 2017. A number of G20 ministers’ conferences are scheduled to take place prior to this. The G20 Foreign Ministers met in Bonn on 16 and 17 February 2017. The summit and ministers’ meetings will provide an opportunity to discuss current international challenges and to raise awareness of new issues in international affairs.
