Press Releases September 1, 2005 Foreign Minister Fischer: Germany Prepared to Do All That is Humanly Possible to Help the US German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer today reiterated Germany’s willingness to offer help in a phone call to US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. The German Government is prepared to do all that is humanly possible, Fischer told Rice. He assured her of Germany’s solidarity with her American friends in such a difficult time. Secretary Rice thanked Foreign Minister Fischer. She said she would inform the President of Fischer’s call and also emphasized that she would not hesitate to take him up on Germany’s offer. Chancellor Gerhard Schröder today issued a government-wide call to determine what help can be offered to the US. This expands on statements by German Interior Minister Otto Schily that Germany is prepared to offer technical assistant in coping with the aftermath of the hurricane. “We would of course also be prepared to support our American friends through the Federal Agency for Technical Relief.” Interior Minister Schily said on behalf of the German Government in an interview with Reuters TV on August 31.
