Greeting from Chancellor Schröder
 |
The Chancellor of the
Federal Republic of Germany |
Message of Greetings on the occasion of the German American Executive Summit (GAES)
Washington, May 19 -20
German-American economic relations have a long and fine tradition. American
businesses are the largest foreign investor in Germany; annual sales
of their branches and subsidiaries amount to roughly 145 billion euros.
Similarly, the United States of America continues to be the main investment
country for German businesses and their most important export market
outside the European Union. My government is committed to ensuring
that these close and fruitful economic relations endure. In addition
to expansion of the European markets, transatlantic ties are and will
remain a crucial pillar of our economic policy. As the two largest
trade nations, we must together meet our responsibility for securing
more global growth and international stability.
In this spirit, I wish the participants of the German American Executive
Summit fruitful discussions.
