Eastern Germany: Good Climate for Business, Good Business for the Climate

This year’s reception to mark the Day of German Unity on October 3 at the German Embassy in Washington, DC, saw the Embassy grounds transformed into a “Garden of Ideas.” Six eastern German states – Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia – showcased themselves as leading locations for innovative investment in Europe.

The debate on finding appropriate solutions to the challenges of climate change stretches across the Atlantic. One such solution is renewable energies, and many US and German companies are successfully investing in renewable energies in eastern Germany. In the “Garden of Ideas” companies presented their innovations in renewable energies and alternative fuels. The event was hosted by German Ambassador Klaus Scharioth, German Federal Minister of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs and Federal Government Commissioner for the New Federal States Wolfgang Tiefensee, and Germany’s investment promotion agency Invest in Germany.
