Fact: Kaiserslautern
is known for being the largest American community outside of the
United States. Over 34,000 Americans share this community with
inhabitants from over 70 nations.
More
than just spartan outposts, American bases in Germany are real communities
where servicemen and -women live and work with their families
just as they would back home.
German
neighbors help to support American families staying at home in Germany
while soldiers serve their country on tours of duty abroad.
Americans
serving at bases in Germany have come to treasure strong community
support from their German neighbors which boosts their morale
and, in turn, U.S. troop retention rates.
It's
no wonder, then, that Americans who have been stationed in Germany
recall happy memories of strong community support. In fact, many
American GIs return to Germany time and again as tourists.

at Work: The
German-American Community Office in Kaiserslautern |
|
At
the German-American Community Office in Kaiserslautern, bilingual
assistants offer information to Americans who have recently
arrived.
Helping
servicemen and -women to settle quickly into their new community,
the staff assists soldiers in handling administrative matters
and provides them with information about their new
home, affectionately known among many as K-town.
In
short, Kaiserslautern embraces its U.S. residents and aims
to offer them thorough, competent service throughout their
stay.
