The Week in Germany: Culture
August 25, 2006
Bestsellers - a look at what Germany is reading
The Stern journalist and author Ildikó von Kürthy,
who scored a German "chick-lit" hit a la Bridget Jones with
the book and film of 1999's Moonlight Tariff, returns to familiar
territory in this week's top seller, Vertigo. The protagonist
Linda has left her boyfriend, moved to Berlin, and started a new job.
The married man she has fallen in love will decide between Linda and his
wife by Sunday evening, making for an eventful weekend. Though hardly
a critical darling, Kürthy's books have sold millions, and Vertigo
has dominated the list in recent weeks.
Author, title, English title, and publisher follow. (If an English
title is unavailable, a translation will be provided).
