Bayern Munich, Hamburg to Play Friendly Matches Against Iran

German soccer teams FC Bayern Munich and Hamburg SV are set to play friendly matches against Iran in January, Iranian national team coach Amir Qalehnoei said on Monday as reported by dpa.

Qalehnoei told state television broadcaster IRIB that his team would play the two Bundesliga teams on January 7 and 9 but did not mention the venue.

As both Bayern and Hamburg are scheduled to hold their winter training camps in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the two friendly games are expected to be held in Tehran's Asadi stadium, which has a capacity of 100,000.

For Bayern Munich it would be the third friendly in Tehran and for Hamburg the second visit to the Iranian capital. Iran's national team captain Mehdi Mahdavikia plays for Hamburg and midfielder Ali Karimi for Bayern Munich.
