Former world heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, who retired in November 2005, is to make his comeback with a hoped-for title fight in April against Russian Oleg Maskaev, Germany's Bild newspaper reported.

The newspaper quotes 35-year-old Klitschko as saying he had applied to the World Boxing Council (WBC) to fight Maskaev for the WBC crown in Moscow on April 21.

"I expect an answer this week," he was quoted as saying.

Klitschko retired on November 9, 2005 with a knee injury, but said the injury was healed and he was "top fit and ready to return to the ring."
