March 16, 2007

Deutsche Welle Partners with ARD, ZDF to Bring Harald Schmidt, Sabine Christiansen, and More to US Viewers

Couch potatoes rejoice: Harald Schmidt will soon appear on American television sets.

Deutsche Welle’s DW-TV USA will soon expand its programming with the addition of popular news and entertainment from Germany’s two main public broadcasters, ZDF and ARD.

As of April 16, Deutsche Welle's mix of news, reportage, and commentary in German and English will be enriched by political talk from Sabine Christiansen and Maybrit Illner, cultural talk al la Charlie Rose with Johannes B. Kerner, and satire from Harald Schmidt.

Beyond classic talk shows, the magazine "ML Mona Lisa" will cover isses that affect women, and educational programs for children like "Siebenstein" and "Wissen macht Ah" will round out the schedule for a broad audience.

Night owls will also benefit from expanded late night offerings including Schmidt, whose Letterman-esque satire shows have tickled German funny bones for decades.

DW TV USA is available as a package including ProSieben.Sat1 Welt and Euronews on the Dish Network, or via cable providers such as Time Warner, Verizon, and Comcast.
