Music Highlight: Johann Sebastian Bach's St. John Passion to be Performed by German American Chorus and Polish Baroque Orchestra of Cracov in Washington and Baltimore

The German American Chorus of Washington DC will perform Bach's St. John Passion on March 24 in Washington and March 25 in Baltimore with one of Eastern Europe's finest Early Music Ensembles - the Polish Baroque Orchestra of Cracov.

"This is an excellent orchestra of young musicians specialized in historic performance practice," the German American Chorus said in a statement.

"We are very excited about these concerts," added one member of the chorus, "the Polish musicians will perform on authentic baroque period instruments."

For the solo parts Maria Skiba and Barbara Hollinshead will join the Chorus, a choir comprised of students and adults based at the German School of Washington. Skiba, from Cracov, trained in The Hague, is currently at the Koblenz Opera in Germany and has performed in many concerts with famous Early Music groups in Europe. Hollinshead, from Washington, trained in Amsterdam.

Thomas Busch has conducted German American Chorus of Washington DC, or Choir of the German School, since 2002. As the music director of several choirs and orchestras he has conducted hundreds of concerts throughout Europe, in India, Singapore and the United States. Since 1996 he has also recorded several CDs with two German labels and via broadcasting recordings. In addition, Busch is the founder of the Polish Baroque Orchestra of Cracov, which first performed Handel's Messiah in Poland on period instruments in 1997.

The concert on Saturday, March 24, 2007 takes place at 7 pm at Sts. Peter & Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church at 10620 River Road, Potomac, MD 20854. The concert on Sunday, March 25, 2007 takes place at 5 pm at the Holy Rosary Parish at 408 S. Chester Street, Baltimore, MD 21231.
