"We're
at the Half-Way Stage"
After two years in office, Chancellor Angela Merkel believes her government
has done a good job so far. The grand coalition has achieved successes
in the jobs market and in boosting the economy. But there is still a lot
to do in things like research policy and childcare provision, said the
Chancellor. The situation in the global economy calls for a further intensification
of our efforts, she told journalists from Germanys ARD, N24, RTL
and ZDF television channels (from REGIERUNGonline).
Wolves
Solidify Paw-Hold in Germany
Charles Hawley reports from Spreewitz on the return of wolves to
eastern Germany. The wolf population has been establishing a solid foothold
in the country over the past five years, and experts are educating local
residents about the best ways for wolves and people to co-exist peacefully,
which is easier than most humans would think! TWIG reported on the same
phenomenon last year in the article "Wolves
Wend Their Way Back into Germany" (TWIG, Dec. 1, 2006).
Report:

recent years has led to a decline in the use of drugs? As Deutsche
Welle reports, illegal drug use among Germans dropped last year, according
to an annual report issued by the country's anti-drug commissioner.
