The Week in Germany: Current Affairs December 7, 2007
Apply: Fulbright Spring 2008 Seminar for US Teachers in Germany
Taking place from May 31 to June 21, 2008, this seminar is administrated by the German-American Fulbright Commission in Berlin. The seminar, consisting of three one-week modules mostly in Marburg with the option of visiting schools anywhere in Germany, will provide the participants with professional development to enrich their own teaching and further their motivation to engage in transatlantic dialogues and exchanges. The visit in Germany offers new perspectives and cultural understanding through a comparison of educational systems. The participants will get an overview of the German school and education systems - including changing structures - which will allow them to apply this new knowledge in their own work. In addition, it allows for time and opportunities to establish new school linkages or other long-term relationships. The seminar is open to teachers of all subjects, including the sciences, arts, and humanities, and from all types and levels of schools. The program will be conducted in English, so that German language skills are not necessary. About one third of the participants should represent schools which have a significant percentage of minority students and thus represent the demographic and cultural diversity of U.S. schools. The experiences of those schools, especially in comparison with German schools, will increase the potential to learn from their situation and to include them in transatlantic exchange activities. The Fulbright Commission in Berlin offers a full grant including international travel expenses, costs of the program in Germany (including accommodations and meals) and organizes the seminar. The majority of the funding of this seminar is provided by the Transatlantic Program of the Federal Republic of Germany with funds from the European Recovery Fund (ERP) of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi). The Fulbright Commission cooperates closely in Germany with the Pedagogic Exchange Service (Pädagogischer Austauschdienst), the school authorities in the relevant German states, and thanks the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) in the USA for their support. To apply you must be an American citizen, a full-time teacher and have a valid passport. You can download the information and the application form from the website of the Fulbright Commission at www.fulbright.de The application deadline is January 15, 2008. Selection of participants and notification is expected by mid-February 2008. Contacts Teachers!
