The Week in Germany: Business, Technology and the Environment

March 31, 2008

International Transport Forum to be Held in May 2008

The first International Transport Forum will be held in Leipzig from May 28 to 30, 2008.

It has been billed by the German government as the most important international platform for transport, logistics and mobility.

The forum is supported by transport ministers from 51 countries and will be a global meeting place for key players from government and politics, business, industry, research and civil society. The eastern German City of Leipzig, with its long-standing tradition as a venue of international trade fairs and exhibitions, was designated the permanent seat of the forum.

Every year, the International Transport Forum will focus on a topic of worldwide strategic importance. Securing energy supply and tackling climate change are currently the key challenges that the transport sector is faced with. For this reason, the topic of "Transport and Energy - the Challenge of Climate Change" will be on this year's agenda of the International Transport Forum.

In connection with the forum, three competitions will be organized. The prizes will be awarded at the International Transport Forum 2008.

The awards will go to projects which have helped reduce carbon dioxide emissions from transport. Participants will be divided into the three following categories: local or regional public entitites, companies and young researchers.
