Exquisite Treasures: Rare Collection of Early Meissen Porcelain on Show at The Frick Collection in New York
In 1710, king August II established a royal manufactory outside of Dresden in the town of Meissen, and the porcelain created there has been known by that name ever since. This spring, the Frick is presenting a selection of Meissen porcelain comprised of some 100 examples from The Arnhold Collection, one of the greatest private holdings of early Meissen assembled in the 20th century.

German business confidence rose for the third consecutive month in March, a key survey released Wednesday (March 26) showed, adding to hopes that Europe's biggest economy will be able to withstand the fallout from slowing global growth. The March increase in the index came in the wake of a record profit year for corporate Germany.
International Transport Forum to be Held in May 2008
The first International Transport Forum will be held in Leipzig from May 28 to 30, 2008. It has been billed by the German government as the most important international platform for transport, logistics and mobility.

100th Anniversary of the Birth of Conductor Herbert von Karajan
He won three Grammy Awards, was perhaps the most recorded and filmed conductor in history, and led orchestras worldwide, including well over 100 concerts in the United States. His last three concerts in New York were praised by American audiences and critics alike, yet Herbert von Karajan remained a controversial figure throughout his lifetime.

German Film Prize Nominees Announced
Leading the list in nominations is Doris Dörrie’s film “Kirschblüten”, which received six nominations. Further favorites competing for prizes include Fatih Akin’s “Auf der Andern Seite” and Christian Petzold’s film “Yella”.

Visas for Life - Exhibition on Ellis Island
The program "Visas for Life: The Righteous and Honorable Diplomats" will honor diplomats from many countries who helped save Jews and other refugees during the Holocaust. The exhibit features German diplomats Georg Ferdinand Duckwitz and Gerhard Feine.

World's Biggest Collection of Preserved Butterflies Moves Home
Prize specimens from the 10-million-insect collection will go back on public display on Friday (April 4). They were netted over decades by German scientists and enthusiasts all over the globe and neatly pinned on cards at the Bavarian State Collection of Zoology (ZSM) museum.
