German President Horst Köler Congratulates President Bush on Election Win German President Horst Köler sent the following telegram congratulating US President George W. Bush on his election victory: The Honorable George W. Bush President of the United States of America Washington, DC Dear Mr. President: I offer you my warm congratulations on winning reelection to the office of President of the United States of America. In the coming four years, you will continue to face challenging tasks – tasks of consequence not only for your own country, but also for the world at large. Germany will be your country's friend and partner in tackling them. We Germans will never forget what we owe the United States of America – beginning with reconstruction following World War II to guaranteeing our country's peace and security during the Cold War and achieving German unification. For more than half a century, we have been bound by a close friendship. We share the same values and fundamental beliefs. These values and our common interests are the pillars of transatlantic cooperation, to which we Germans will remain committed in the future. I wish you every success and God's blessing for the work that lies ahead! Yours sincerely, Horst Köhler President of the Federal Republic of Germany
