Foreign Minister Steinmeier Receives Foreign Press Association Media Prize
Some of the most famous 20th century reporters have belonged to the Berlin-based Foreign Press Association (Verein der Auslaendischen Presse in Deutschland), which celebrated its 100th anniversary on October 24 in the Berlin capital.
Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier was awarded the Foreign Press Association Media Prize for 2006 in recognition of his openness towards the foreign press. Steinmeier in his speech referred to correspondents as ambassadors who help to shape Germany's image abroad with their reports.
The Foreign Press Association invites around a hundred guests in the course of a given year to take part in background interviews. The members of the association select the winner of the Media Prize from among these persons.
