Federal Foreign Minister Steinmeier Condemns Attacks in Dahab April 26, 2006 Today (26 April 2006) Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier issued the following statement concerning the attacks in Dahab, Egypt: "The harrowing images from Dahab have shocked and deeply saddened us all. The Federal Government condemns these murderous attacks, which have claimed the lives of numerous innocent people and injured many others, in the strongest terms. A child from Germany is among the dead, and we have to assume that other German citizens have been hurt. Our hearts go out to them and all the other victims, their families and friends. We hope that the injured will make a full recovery. Last night's attacks reminded us with tragic clarity that terrorists, in their blind hatred, will stop at nothing. Together we must ensure that they do not achieve their ends. The motivation behind the attacks must be revealed and the perpetrators held accountable." The German Embassy in Cairo has seconded several members of staff to Dahab to assist German tourists and to obtain more information. The Embassy is maintaining close contact with the Egyptian authorities.
