German Government Condemns Statements by Iranian President Concerning Israel

The statements made yesterday (Oct. 26) by the Iranian president questioning Israel's right to exist are utterly unacceptable in the view of the German Government and to be condemned in the sharpest manner.

In the absence of the Iranian Ambassador, the chargé d affaires of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran was summoned today (Oct. 27) to the Federal Foreign Office. The Federal Foreign Office underscored to him the German Government's condemnation of yesterday's statements by the Iranian president and stressed that, for the Federal Republic of Germany, Israel's right to exist is sacrosanct. The chargé d affaires agreed to inform his government accordingly.

The heads of state and government gathered today (Oct. 27) in Hampton Court for an informal summit meeting of the European Union have likewise condemned the Iranian president's comments in the sharpest manner.
