On July 31st, a joint effort by the City of Los Angeles, the L.A. Berlin Sister City Committee and the German Consulate General in Los Angeles, marked the Los Angeles launch of the exhibit depicting one of the greatest humanitarian actions of all time and a special thank you to local heroes of the Berlin Airlift.
"Power of Wind", a short film produced with the support of the Federal Environment Ministry, won two gold Nails at the Art Directors Club for Germany's 44th competition. The spot, in English, personifies the wind as a friendly but friendless loner who is tired of wasting his energy on pointless acts. He wants to be useful, so he can gain a place in people's hearts.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift. The heroic efforts of the United States and her Allies saved more than 2 million men, women and children in Berlin.

400th Anniversary of First Germans in America at Jamestown

The first German settlers in America arrived 400 years ago in Virginia. Ambassador Scharioth unveiled a National Park Service historic marker at the Jamestown Glasshouse before a cheering crowd of German-Americans gathered in Williamsburg for festivities commemorating the anniversary, coordinated by regional German-American societies with the support of the German Embassy.

As part of his recent trip to Boston, Foreign Minister Steinmeier had the privilege and pleasure of throwing out the first pitch at the Red Sox-Yankees game at Fenway Park on April 12. He was accompanied to the mound by two young students from the German International School Boston. Steinmeier donned a Red Sox jacket and in front of some 40,000 fans, confidently took the mound and threw the ball like a pro.

Foreign Ministers Steinmeier and Kouchner Step to Mic in Berlin
Foreign Minister Steinmeier and his French colleague stepped to the mic on Monday in Berlin to record the first-ever vocal track by two foreign ministers. Together with German-Turkish recording artist Muhabett and seven talented young people, they recorded "Deutschland", a song whose lyrics address the recognition, respect and appreciation for the diverse cultural backgrounds of people in Germany.
