The humanitarian situation in Afghanistan was critical even before the Taliban seized power, and the situation is continuing to deteriorate. Germany has made available additional financial aid to help people on the ground.
On 1 December, Foreign Minister Maas is travelling to Stockholm to attend the Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). The OSCE is a unique multilateral forum for security cooperation.
At the moment, about 274 million people are dependent on humanitarian assistance as a result of armed conflict, extreme weather phenomena and COVID-19. Germany has for many years contributed considerable funds but also new ideas as to how the money can be used more effectively in this area.
