To make an appointment to apply for a German passport, please use our FREE online appointment system.

Important information

The German Embassy points out that appointments can neither be booked by telephone nor by email.

Please note that for the time being the Safari browser is incompatible with the appointment booking system.

Please make sure that you book your passport or ID-Card appointment in the correct category “German Passport and ID-Card” (not “Visa application”!). If you book an appointment in the wrong category, your booking cannot be considered and will be deleted without further notice.

Your appointment will be cancelled if you miss your assigned slot by more than 20 minutes.

All appointments are scheduled through our FREE online system. Once you have made an appointment, you will receive a confirmation email with your reference number, and the date and time of your appointment. We ask for your understanding that appointment bookings will not be confirmed by telephone or separate email. You will also receive information on what supporting documentation to bring. We recommend you read the information carefully in order to be fully prepared for your appointment.

If your name has changed because of marriage and you need to make a name declaration, or when you are submitting a passport application for your child and you want to register its birth, you need to book an aditional, separate appointment for this service in the category Family matters.

Visitors of the Consular Section may bring one bag into the waiting room with a maximum size of 35 cm (14 inches) x 30 cm (12 inches) x 20 cm (8 inches). Bags larger than this size are not allowed.

 Also prohibited in the waiting room are 

  • electronic devices such as cell phones*, tablet computers, smart watches, laptops, cameras or any other wireless devices
  • sealed envelopes or packages
  • sharp objects such as scissors, knives or nail files
  • weapons or explosive material of any kind are also prohibited. 

This list is not exhaustive. Other items may be prohibited at the discretion of the security staff.

*You may store your cell phone (free of charge) in one of the Embassy’s lockers that are located in front of the Consular building.

The Embassy and the Legal and Consular Department will be closed on the following German and American holidays:
