The Consulate General of Germany and the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC) hosted a Symposium “Re-inventing Roma Inclusion” and Exhibition on September 24th. The discussion focused on the transformation of Roma inclusion that builds on the assets within the strong, sukar (beautiful) and self-determined minority. Combined with the exhibition SUKAR, the symposium looked beyond Roma stereotypes, concentrating on accepting and integrating suppressed Roma culture. A full house listened to the speakers which included Minister of State for Europe, Michael Roth, the founder of the Open Society Foundations, George Soros, andthe Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland.
