The German Consulate General Recommends:
Tracing the powerful impact of musical icons Kenny Garrett and Branford Marsalis the Lars Haake quartet brings a fresh take on contemporary bop to New York's Zinc Bar. From high-energy combustions to dark ballads, the music draws in the audience with intensity and intimacy. German-born alto saxophonist Lars Haake who has appeared and recorded amongst others with the greats Kenwood Dennard, Hiram Bullock and James Genus, studied saxophone in Germany with Tony Lakatos, with Bill Pierce at the Berklee College of Music and privately with Vincent Herring and Bill Evans. His close collaboration with pianist Benito Gonzalez, who has appeared on Kenny Garrett's last three albums, has given the quartet an unmistakable soulful edge.
The Zinc Bar is a New York jazz institution and has been hosting some of the city’s greatest bands in a sophisticated cocktail bar setting.
