Armin Laschet, the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, is traveling in the district of the Consulate General this week with the aim to strengthen German-American relations. Hence, Laschet met one of his American counterparts, the Governor of New Jersey, Phil Murphy in the state’s capital Trenton on Wednesday. On Thursday PM Laschet visited Rutgers University, where he learned about joint projects with Ruhr Universities in the context of the Year of German-American Friendship as well as research projects on Artificial Intelligence. Today, he will take part in meetings at the United Nations – among them a bilateral dialogue with the Secretary-General António Guterres.
As per Laschet, the United States is and will remain Germany’s most important partner outside the European Union. In North Rhine-Westphalia, in addition to numerous university and research cooperations,U.S. companies are among the largest investors and foreign employers. Thus, stable German-American relations are of high importance for Laschet.
