A program focused on this summer's Bayreuth Festival will open the Wagner Society of New York's season on September 20, 2019.

The German Consulate General Recommends:

John J. H. Muller will moderate discussion of the new “Tannhauser” production -- Tobias Kratzer director, Valery Gergiev conductor. (Critic Alex Ross noted, “If I understand correctly, Venus and Tannhäuser just killed a cop at a Burger King.”)  Muller is on the Juilliard School faculty, former chair of the music department, and is a record producer.

Presentations will cover the 100th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Wagner (by Scott Carlton, former Bayreuth chorister) and the 150th anniversary of the birth of Siegfried Wagner (by German Bravo-Casas, vice president, WSNY).

A wine reception will precede the program from 6 to 6:45 p.m. in the 9th floor Solarium Terrace at 3 West Club.

Location and time:
3 West Club
(51st Street, west of Fifth Avenue, Manhattan)
Friday, September 20, 2019.
