In Germany and in the United States, pollution from motorvehicles is an issue of serious concern. At the moment, municipal policymakers on both sides of the Atlantic are experimenting with a range of strategies to remedy the situation. As both German and US cities face similar problems, they might learn and benefit from each other. For this reason, the Consulate General and the NYU Guarini Center brought together leading experts from Germany and New York City this week to discuss this topic at length. After a very informative and illuminative keynote speech held by Prof. Dr. Claudia Kemfert (German Institute for Economic Research) options for transitioning towards new modes of transportation were controversially discussed.
