The Wagner Society of New York's 40th annual seminar on Wagner's opera Der Fliegende Hollander will be presented as a webinar in two sessions on June 29 and July 1, 2020.

The German Consulate General Recommends:

Never too late for the Flying Dutchman! The Wagner Society of New York's 40th annual seminar, on Wagner's opera Der Fliegende Hollander, cancelled for March 15, now will be presented as a webinar in two sessions.

The programs are taped; moderator will be F. Peter Phillips (The Wagner Blog).

Speakers will include Hans Rudolf Vaget, professor emeritus of German studies; Peter Bloom, professor emeritus of humanities, Smith College; Joe Pearce, president, Vocal Record Collectors Society; Victoria Bond, composer/conductor/music director; and Jeffrey Swann, Ph.D., concert pianist and New York University professor.  All participants who register will receive an email in advance with links to both sessions and instructions on how to join. Contributions to support the webinar  are voluntary, but the Society would appreciate them. Suggested amounts are on the Website.

Program will include interviews with cast members David Portillo and Franz-Josef Selig.  At noon on Sunday, July 5, NYC  PBS Channel 13 will air the new Met production of “Die Fliegende Hollander” which had to be canceled mid-run due to the pandemic.

Monday, June 29, and Wednesday, July 1, each from 7 to 9 p.m.
