German speaking churches from Washington, DC, New York and Philadelphia invite you to a commemoration of the German reunification 30 years ago

30 years ago, on Oct 3rd, 1990, after more than 40 years of separation and opposition during the Cold War, East and West Germany were reunified. Together with German speaking Churches along the US-East Coast, we would like to commemorate this important event in history and invite all German speaking Christians to worship with us online on Zoom.

David Gill, the German Consul General in New York, has played an active role in the process of the so-called peaceful revolution in East Germany. Mr. Gill will help us to remember this important part of modern history. Bishop Leila Ortiz (ELCA Metro-DC Synod) will share some reflections from an American perspective. Two renowned ensembles will offer the music for the ceremony. The Dresden Philharmonic Children’s Choir will contribute a German Folk Song, and the Washington Bach Consort will share two pieces from their recent Bach Interactions, from Bach’s Cantata “Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme” (Sleepers Awake) BWV 140.
