As we come to the end of a difficult year,
the German Embassy and Washington Performing Arts
invite you and your loved ones to a free virtual holiday concert.
Join us from the comfort of your home as we go on a musical adventure
that will invigorate your senses and lift your spirits!
The event will premiere on Facebook on Sunday, December 20 at 4:00 pm (EST)
and remain available online until December 31.
Our concert will feature the internationally renowned Gewandhausorchester Leipzig,
The United States Air Force Band and The String Queens,
a dynamic trio that is praised for its authentic, soulful, orchestral sound.
You can look forward to an array of treasured holiday music,
including selections from The Nutcracker, as well as Beethoven’s Ode to Joy
and other songs that will bring the holiday spirit into your homes.
This year, we are celebrating Beethoven's 250th birthday,
which makes the Ode to Joy even more special.
In 1990, this famous and stirring piece was adopted as the European anthem,
and we can think of no better moment to encourage friendship
across cultures and continents.
In this spirit, you will enjoy a unique collaboration between
U.S. Air Force Band's Airmen of Note and their colleagues of
Germany’s Die Big Band der Bundeswehr to present this
hymn to humanity, with a 2020 twist.
German Ambassador Emily Haber will welcome you to the presentation
with a message for the holidays.
So grab a cup of something warm and join us for this special event.
Together, let’s share the joy of the season!
Check in on the German Embassy’s Facebook page when the event goes live
on Sunday, December 20 at 4:00 pm (EST)!
