On May 17th, 2012, the German Consulate General hosted a meeting between experts on renewable energies from California and the Minister-President (Governor) of the German state Saxony-Anhalt, Dr. Reiner Haseloff and his delegation. The meeting, which was moderated by Prof. Dr. Groth from Hult Business School and CEO of Emergent Frontiers Group LLC, gave Dr. Haseloff the chance to gain valuable insights not only into the history of California's energy policy, but also into the current state of affairs and challenges especially with regards to the role of renewable energy sources in the golden state.

Last Wednesday night, May 16th, 2012, Bay Area favorite Nanette McGuinness delighted a crowd of 100 guests with an outstanding concert at the German Consulate General. Accompanied by new chamber music composed by David Garner and performed by pianist Dale Tsang-Hall and cellist Adaiha Mac Adam-Somer, McGuinnes recited two song cycles to texts by poets Annette von Droste-Hülshoff and Mascha Kaléko.

On May 3, 2012 Vocaldente's five group members, Tobi, Johnny, Jakob, Tobek, and Christoph showed their skills at a private concert at the German Consulate General in San Francisco. This concluded the three-concert tour the Consulate had organized with the band. Starting off in Corvallis, Oregon in front of a cowd of 400, continuing in Portland, Oregon playing for 200 people, the conclusion in San Francisco took place in a more intimate setting with 90 guests.

On April 15, 2012 four members of the German Parliament responsible for evaluating the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program (CBYX) met at the German Residence with German students participating in this program. The delegation was led by MP Bartholomäus Kalb and included MPs Dagmar Freitag, Bernd Scheelen and Alexander Ulrich.

After a vacancy of more than six years, Germany is again being represented by an Honorary Consul in the State of Hawaii. Consul General Peter Rothen took the oath of office from Honorary Consul Denis Salle on April 4 during a festive inauguration ceremony at the Pacific Club in Honolulu.

From the small town of Rostock in the far northeast of Germany on the Baltic Sea, an unusual combination of visitors arrived in the Bay Area last week. Five professional musicians and a fellow cardiologist accompanied the Director of Cardiac Surgery from University of Rostock, Gustav Steinhoff.
