Oliver Bientzle took up his post as the Consul General of Germany in Atlanta in July 2026. Before his posting to the southeastern United States, he headed the division for the promotion of German as a foreign language and German schools abroad at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin from 2021. His diplomatic career previously took him to the Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, the Embassy in Yangon, the Permanent Mission to NATO in Brussels, and the Embassy in Riyadh. At the Federal Foreign Office, he also worked in the divisions for the USA/Canada/G7 and the Middle East.
Oliver grew up in Offenburg and studied at the University of Bamberg (Economics), the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and the College of Europe in Warsaw. Before joining the Federal Foreign Office, he worked as a management consultant and as an assistant to a Member of the European Parliament in Brussels/Strasbourg. He is married and has two sons.
