How to Apply for a Visa in Boston:
Please Note: The Consulate General accepts visa applications from residents of Connecticut (except Fairfield County), Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont only. All applications must be submitted in person, unless you qualify for the exemption listed below.

  1. Please, book your visa appointment free of charge online. A visa appointment may be booked as early as 12 weeks in advance, but should not be scheduled later than 15 days prior to your travel date to ensure sufficient time to process your application.
  2. Once you have made the visa appointment, you will receive a confirmation email showing the date and time. Please, ensure that the email confirms a visa appointment in the Visa Department, NOT in the Passport Department!
  3. To avoid delays in the processing of your application, make sure to bring all the required documents as listed in the visa requirements when you show up for your visa appointment.
  4. To return your passport with the visa, we exclusively use USPS Overnight Express for mailings within the U.S. For this service, we charge an extra fee of 25.00 USD, payable in cash or U.S. money order only. You can also pick up your passport in person or have it picked up by a person with an authorization letter signed by you.

Visa Appointment Exemption:
If you have been issued 2 Schengen visas within the past 2 years for which your fingerprints were taken (if you do not remember, you can check your old visa sticker for the letters "vis" in the bottom lines) AND at least 1 of these was issued by the German Consulate in Boston, you can now send us your application via mail for the following purposes: business meetings and visiting German or EU immediate family members residing in Germany.

Please find the application form, as well as the information leaflets regarding supporting documents, on our website www.germany.info. Your envelope MUST include the visa fee, your passport and, in case you wish to have your passport mailed back to you via USPS, a pre-filled USPS envelope/slip with your address, as well as an additional 24.00 USD for the USPS fee.
