All applicants for passports, visas, and consular matters NEED to schedule an appointment in order to hand in their applications! Appointments are made exclusively online in our Online Appointment System. Due to high volume, we kindly ask that you refrain from calling our phone lines to request an appointment. NEW: The German Consulate Boston now has a Photo Booth in its waiting area. A set of 4 biometric photos costs only $5, paid in cash ($1 or $5 Dollar bills only) or by credit card.
How to Apply for a Visa in Boston:
Please Note: The Consulate General accepts visa applications from residents of Connecticut (except Fairfield County), Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont only. All applications must be submitted in person, unless you qualify for the exemption listed below.
- Please, book your visa appointment free of charge online. A visa appointment may be booked as early as 12 weeks in advance, but should not be scheduled later than 15 days prior to your travel date to ensure sufficient time to process your application.
- Once you have made the visa appointment, you will receive a confirmation email showing the date and time. Please, ensure that the email confirms a visa appointment in the Visa Department, NOT in the Passport Department!
- To avoid delays in the processing of your application, make sure to bring all the required documents as listed in the visa requirements when you show up for your visa appointment.
- To return your passport with the visa, we exclusively use USPS Overnight Express for mailings within the U.S. For this service, we charge an extra fee of 25.00 USD, payable in cash or U.S. money order only. You can also pick up your passport in person or have it picked up by a person with an authorization letter signed by you.
Under certain circumstances, applicants can also submit their visa applications per mail. Please read more here
