Road Trip: Germany Coming to Town on #GermanBusUSA
Our German-American team set out from the German Embassy in Washington, DC, on the first-of-its-kind, multi-state road trip on Monday, October 30. Their aim is to get out into the country and meet people in their hometowns to talk to them about their German heritage, about Germany in general, about the United States and Germany – politically, but also socially and culturally.
Our countries share a number of challenges in these turbulent times, but we also share a long history, common values and common interests. The team will talk about all of these things on this #GermanBusUSA tour.
The route is not scientific, but the team identified towns, neighborhoods and schools with “German” in their name or towns with German history or German-related events they could visit during these first two weeks in November.
MISSISSIPPI
The first stop, will be Jackson, Mississippi, where the German Bus will visit a number of schools, including Germantown High School.
TENNESSEE
In our next city, Memphis, the German Bus team will take part in the first community Oktoberfest.
In Nashville, they will host a German trivia night and, of course, take in some country music sites.
KENTUCKY
In Louisville, Kentucky, they will visit German businesses and heritage sites with two local historians.
VIRGINIA
Finally in Locust Grove, Virginia, the German Bus team will visit Fort Germanna, site of the first German settlement in the Virginia colony more than 300 years ago.
